"After years and years of being monolingual, I am now retired and trying to learn Spanish at a very senior age!! I'm just beginning and Jessica tell's me I'm her "toddler" because I just throw myself into a conversation without reserve!! Every once in a while I just know that I'm understanding her in Spanish and can even respond sometimes without thinking in English!! It's so exciting. When I enrolled at the Spanish Academy in September 2010, both group size was small, and the syllabus presented by Ms.Jessica Perez-Maqueda covers situations that are happening in everyday life.
Ms. Jessica uses props in her class that are truly unique, making the lessons interesting and challenging.

" My two children, Zachary 9 and Joshua 6 have been students at the academy for the past 3 years. We know that learning a second languages early in life will enrich and enhance our boys mental development. We also hope that longer term, having a second language will perhaps give them a competitive advantage in the workforce. They are both currently in group classes and are learning a tremendous amount. I am amazed when I hear my kindergartener read a Spanish passage with perfect pronouciation and then he can translate it from Spanish to English. Then there is my third grader who is conjugating verbs and writing stories in Spanish. Miss Jessica is truly amazing! She brings a lot of energy to her classes and has each class engaged in a variety of learning activites including reading, writing, games, music, cultural art and activities, etc that has all been carefully and purposely planned and most importantly is producing marvelous results. " My husband and I have taken Spanish lessons at several different places over the years and we just were not able to find the right mix to meet our needs. I felt we needed to speak only in Spanish but my husband wanted to be able to ask questions and have some things explained in English. We finally found the right mix at the Spanish Academy of Bradenton. We take lessons once a week, the classes are small only 5 people which allows for some individual attention and a lot of participation by everyone. Jessica our instructor and the director is excellent, she is extremely organized on target with our abilities and we both really feel like we are learning something everytime. We plan on being patrons for a long time and highly recommend their classes" .

" I chose the Spanish Academy the first time because the program was offered at the AMI Community Center. It was conveniently located and reasonably priced for my desire for exposure to Spanish. Although I had had a year of Spanish 50 years ago in high school, I had no expectations for the program or for me. When the school year ended, however, I knew that I wanted to return in the fall. After the summer, I chose the Spanish Academy because I enjoyed the instructor and liked the way she designed the program. The instructor is very much "in tune" with her students' needs and willingly and graciously accommodates us. As a former college nursing instructor I know how difficult adult students can be as far as wants, demands and expectations. Jessica meets all of these. I would strongly recommend The Spanish Academy to anyone who has a need or desire to learn Spanish. Although there is work involved, Jessica makes it fun and we have many laughs. "

The Spanish Academy was recommened to me by a very good friend of mine who knows Jessica and was aware of her people skill and gift to teach the foreign language. I had a private instructor but there wasn't chemistry as there is with Jessica and her teaching methods.
My instructor, Jessica Perez-Maqueda, is very nice and fun in class while you learn a foreign language. I enjoy and look forward to the classes with her ¡ y hablar mucho español !

I had traveled to Georgia to spend time with my father. We went for a walk in the park and I saw a young hispanic girl walking by herself and crying. I spoke to her in English first but she just kept crying. I then decided to try my Spanish that I had learned at the Spanish Academy. I asked her where her mother and father were in Spanish and her eyes lit up and she responded in Spanish she was lost and she did not know where they were. The little girl was too scared to come with me but my dad and I kept walking on the path and watching her. All of a sudden ,a man came running calling out in Spanish. I stopped him and spoke in English. He did not understand. I then used my learned Spanish again and told him his daughter was very close by and pointed her out. He went running after her. My father and I kept walking and then we came upon the mother crying. She spoke no English. I once, again stumbled through my Spanish and told her what happened and that the father was getting her daughter. The look on her face was worth every penny that I have spent at the Spanish Academy learning Spanish. The whole family came up to us and expressed their gratitude, of course, in Spanish.

The Spanish Academy has been a great asset for me since I've been here. I am achieving my bachelors degree and needed a foreign language in order to graduate. Working with Jessica has allowed me to stay ahead of my college spanish class and work one on one with her, which is hard to do in a large college classroom. I highly recommend the Spanish Academy for beginner to advanced, it's nice to work at your own pace and level. Also you get to ask lots of questions, and be able to learn spanish the correct way.

The small class size allowing for individual attention as well as the expertise and passion of our teacher have made this a wonderful adult learning experience.
